Patti Geolat, founder and CEO of Geolat, is a widely known authority on the appraisal and sale of fine jewelry. Her clientele includes many of the top jewelry houses globally, as well an extensive network of private and industry collectors. She has a distinguished reputation for excellence, confidentiality and professionalism in the private world of jewelry and gemstones, giving her access at the highest levels.
Geolat founded her company in 1983. Her many credentials include: Graduate Gemologist (GG), Gemological Institute of America; Fellow (FGA) by examination, Gemmological Association of Great Britain, Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), American Society of Appraisers; Associate in Risk Management (ARM), Insurance Institute of America; Accredited Member (AM), American Society of Appraisers, and a Chartered Insurance Operations Professional (CIOP). She has also completed multiple recertification courses on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP), through the American Society of Appraisers.
Her professional affiliations include a 15-year term of service on the Board of Directors of Jewelers Mutual Insurance Co., the industry’s leading insurer, including nine as chairman. During 2008, Geolat was requested to step into the role of Interim CEO of the company, when it unexpectedly lost its CEO. She presided over its executive search as well as important aspects of the company’s business, establishing many new industry partnerships for the insurer during her year-long stint.
Geolat also fulfilled a term of service as Chairman of the Board of Governors of the American Gem Trade Association’s Gemological Testing Center, as well as serving on AGTA’s Board of Governors and its Industry Rules Committee. Currently she serves on the boards of the Jewelers’ Security Alliance and the Women’s Jewelry Association. Geolat is also one of only 200 members admitted to the Twenty-Four Karat Club, the jewelry trade’s most prestigious national organization for industry leaders. Additionally, she serves on the Jewelry Information Center’s Gem Awards Committee, as a member of Jewelers of America.
Geolat is also the co-author of The Professional’s Guide to Jewelry Insurance Appraising.
C. VAN NORTHRUP, ASA, Appraiser,
. . . has been with Geolat since 1985, specializing in the valuation of fine art, fine craft, 19th and 20th century furniture, avant-garde design, china, glass, silver and photographs. He is an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), of the American Society of Appraisers, tested in appraising fine art. He has an extensive ASA education background, including regular reaccreditations and courses on the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP). Northrup has developed courses for the University of Indiana, covering the appraisal of limited edition prints; the ethics, logic, terminology and reasoning of the appraisal process; government tax and bankruptcy regulations and appraisal procedures; and appraisal report writing - basic, intermediate and advanced. His reputation is such that he is also sought after for the appraisal of sports memorabilia and wine cellars, and has even served as a judge at the Federal Duck Stamp Contest, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
JUDY ASA, Vice President, Operations,
